Cameron and Megan,
Races and Events
Another weekend, and another race. Megan and I got to spend the weekend in Evanston Wy.
Megan raced in the High Uintah Classic. The race is a 3 stage race, staring in Kamas Utah and riding over Bald Mountain Pass (10,700 Feet Elevation) to Christmas Meadows. Stage 2 was a 10 mile time trial outside of Evanston, and stage 3 was a crit around downtown Evanston (yes there really is a downtown Evanston)
Trip recap:
Stage one, Megan took 5th in the road race, 2nd in the time trial and 3rd in the crit.
There was a lot of snow at the top of the pass, and there was some light rains that made for a cold day one. Megan finished great though, and I only had to help one girl out who I pretty much thought was going to die along the way. I took the opportunity to get a high elevation run in preps for the Scofield race. (6.5 miles at 7700 feet elevation). it gave me a great chance to see all the different race divsion come through the Mirror Lake Highway, including Megs.
Day one ended with us heading to the hotel. Though one of the cheaper hotels in the area, I don’t think I will be recommending the Howard Johnson anytime soon. We drove around that evening and looked at the time trial course and the crit course, before heading to the JB’s for yankee pot roast. (Even if it was slightly better then the HO JO’s, I doubt I will be recomending it any time soon either). The start of the time trial was overcast, and threatening rain. Megs group got out right as the winds came up. She had a great ride and had lots of fun (even passing the girl that left 30 seconds before her) I spent the race helping racers get mud out of their cleats so they could mount up. The crit was a lot of fun, it was a closed course 1.3 mile loop, with a 6 block climb in the middle. Once again Meg did great, and even threw in a good surge on lap 4 to win the bonus money for being the leader at lap 4. (even though they forgot to hand out that money, I still consider her my lap 4 winner). She had a great finish with a small group getting away to finish 1st, 2nd and 3rd (meg).
We had a lot of fun and Evanston really is a nice place.
